Windows 2000 - DSL - Ethernet Setup

NOTE: The default settings in Windows 2000 are correct. This guide is to set your Network Settings back to default.

1. Click Start, Settings, then click "Control Panel"



 

2. Double-click on "Network and Dial-Up Connections"






3. Right click on "Local Area Connection" and click on "Properties"




4. Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click on "Properties"

NOTE: DO NOT uncheck the TCP/IP check box.




5. Select "Obtain an IP address automatically"

6. Select " Obtain DNS server address automatically"

7. Click "OK"





10. Click "OK" on the Local Area Connection Properties window

11. Double click on the "Local Area Connection" icon to receive the status window. On the Status window, the Status should read "Connected"

If you status is Disconnected, be sure that the DSL Modem is plugged in and turned on. Try Disabling the connection and re-enabling it. Make sure that the Ethernet cable is plugged into the correct jack on the back of the computer and on the DSL modem.

FINISHED

You should now be able to browse the internet. If you are still unable to browse, try re-starting the computer.
